Taped Head/ Animal Mask/ Face Mask Art Piece

Title of Art Project: Natures Beauty
For this project, we took Styrofoam heads and covered them in surran wrap, then we completely covered the head in layers and layers of clear tape. Then we cut a strait line down the head and removed the head from the tape and surran wrap. Then we put back together the taped head but without the surran wrap. This made a see-through replica of the original head. Then we were assigned to fill the inside of the head with something that represents our "inner self". Personally I filed my head with purple flowers and colorful tissue paper because I am usually a calm person but I'm also very outgoing and and I have a abstract or "colorful" personality. I figured that flowers and calm colors such as blue and green would show this.

After I had completed making the head part of the project, I had to move on to making the face mask. I was one of the few people that got the chance to use their actual face for the mask instead of a pre-made mask This process was done by "mummifying" my face. This was done by having me lay down, put straws up my nose, and having my entire face covered in clay/plaster. Then they covered that with plaster paper and made me sit there, not being able to move for about 15 minutes until the plaster had dried. Then they peeled the mold off my face, leaving an exact replica of my face. This was really cool because then my mask was personal and not generic like some of the other masks. After my face mask was made, I painted it white for a base coat, and then decided to paint flowers onto the mask to go along with the flowers that were inside my taped head. I found a picture of flowers that I wanted and projected them onto my mask. I traced the flowers with a pencil, painted the flowers, then went over it with a sharpie to finish it. Overall I was really proud of the face mask and how good the painted flowers looked on it. I felt that it really showed a reflection of who I am.

For the final part of this project, we were assigned to create an animal mask that relates to us or our "inner animal". We had to think of an animal that was most like who we are. I decided to make a white tiger animal mask, because it is one of my favorite animals and I love how white tigers are such beautiful, peaceful creatures that just live happily in the wild. I know that white tigers can become vicious too and that's also what I like about them, they are the predator not the prey (excluding to humans). So basically I decided to make a mask that would be more like a party mask that just covers the forehead and nose. I modeled the mask out of paper clay and used a picture of a tiger mask as a guide. Then after the mask was finished I let it dry, and then painted it white. Then I found a picture of a white tiger pattern and projected it onto my mask. I traced it with pencil and then very carefully painted it using black paint. Then I attached string onto the mask to complete it.

To complete my project I glued the face mask onto the head, attached the animal mask onto it, and then covered the base of the head with purple and white flowers (to go along with the flowers inside my head, and the white of the face and animal mask)

Concept: I basically just wanted to bring the two main concepts of nature (plants and animals) together in my project. Some of the most beautiful plants are flowers; and in my opinion one of the most beautiful animals is a white tiger.

Coptic Stitch Booklit

 Coptic Stitch Booklit-

The coptic stitch booklit is a book made out of 2 of the squares used in our 5 squares composition piece. We took two of our best squares that we had made, and used them as our front and back cover of the book. Then we cut out 35 sheets of dictionary paper and cut them according to shape in order to be the pages of our booklit.

After we made the pages for our booklit, we recieved string and stitched the book together so the pages would not fall out. Then we attached buttons onto the booklit to complete the project.

This process took avery long time to complete because of the fact that we had to rip out each page a certain way and then stitch it all together which most of us have never done before.

I learned a lot from this project, I learned that most art is unplanned in some way. Like everyone has an image of what they want to make in their head, but it never turns out exactly as ts planned. We always make changes when we discover that something added or tken awywould make the piece look better.

5 squares composition

For the 5 squares composition, we were assigned to create a collage using magazine pictures. This was used to show different aspects of art including positive and negative space, focal point, variety of direction, ect. We were supposed to use a library card, cut out the magazine pictures, and then glue the pictures onto the library card, focusing on one of the aspects of art. Now, I kind of disobeyed the rules by putting a full color picture as the background of the card, instead of just the card. But I must say that my collage pieces came out very well and I think I made the the right choice.
For my collage pieces, I used pictures that somewhat related to me to start off with. I found pictures that I liked, had interest in, or related to. then, once I had those pictures, I would look at the collage piece that i was making and ask myself what kind of picture I would need to make the big picture look better. Afterwards we used wax to make a cotting over each square. I really like all of my collage blocks, i think that even though I kind of cheated on the design, i made the choice for the better and in the end the pieces turned out really well.

Crayon color posters

Process:
1. Get two pieces of paper that was given to us in class
2. Decide which crayons would be considered a cool color, which crayons would be a warm color, and which crayons were not going to be used in the piece.
3.Put a water color wash on each paper.
4.Align which crayons were going to be used on the paper. The crayons could be aligned in any way.
5. Start to melt the crayons onto the paper using the heat gun. This is where freedom comes into play and each person created a different way to have their crayons melt.
6.  Find a word that describes the piece.
7.Sew the word onto the crayon piece and add anything else that is needed to complete the piece and turn it into a work of art.

Warm Colors-
For my warm color crayon piece I decided to use the word (obnoxious) because after completing my piece using the crayons, that was the word that came to mind. I looked at my piece and saw how the crayon lines went all over the page, in no particular order, and had absolutely no alignment at all. when I saw this, I wanted to use a word that meant "out of order" or "messed up". When I think of something that is obnoxious, I think of a person wearing every type of clothing item possible, not matching at all, no color coordination, and wearing the loudest, brightest colors that they could think of. And now when I look at my crayon piece that is what I see.

Cool colors -

The word that I used for the cool colors crayon poster was (Enchanted). When I first started out with this piece, i was not completely satisfied with just letting the cool colors run down the page. I wanted to add a different color to the piece that really stood out. That is when I decided to use lime green and make put them as more of paint splatters and dots on top of the colors that were already there. when I saw the blues, purples, and greens on my piece I instantly thought of the word "enchanted" such as princesses, frogs, forest, waterfalls, and castles. All the colors mixed together reminded me of an imaginary world such as a fairy tale. When I added the word to my piece I wanted to put the green "paint splatters" on top of the word but the crayon melted through the fabric before it dried so unfortunately that did not work out so well. Overall I am very happy with both my pieces using the crayons to show the difference between warm and cool colors.
